CE Marking Services for Machinery and Products

Practical compliance support for products placed on the European market.

Mervex Engineering and Inspection supports manufacturers, importers and suppliers with CE marking requirements for machinery, electrical equipment and regulated products. We help identify applicable EU requirements, relevant standards, technical documentation needs and conformity assessment steps before a product is placed on the market.

What is CE Marking?

CE marking shows that a product has been assessed against applicable EU safety, health and environmental protection requirements before being placed on the European market. It is not a quality mark or a general product approval. It is a legal marking supported by technical documentation, conformity assessment and an EU Declaration of Conformity.

For many products, the manufacturer can complete the process internally. For certain higher-risk products or specific routes, involvement of a Notified Body may be required.

Who Needs CE Marking Support?

This service is suitable for manufacturers, importers, distributors and suppliers placing machinery or regulated products on the EU market. It may also be needed when importing equipment, modifying or rebranding machinery, preparing a technical file, or checking which EU directives, regulations and harmonised standards apply.

Products we can support include machinery, production equipment, control panels, electrical equipment, powered tools, industrial systems and modified or rebranded products.

How We Support the CE Marking Process

Our support is structured to help you move from product review to documented conformity with clear, practical steps.

  • Product compliance review
  • Applicable EU legislation review
  • Harmonised standards mapping
  • ISO 12100 risk assessment support
  • Technical file review and preparation
  • Test report and documentation review
  • EU Declaration of Conformity guidance
  • Conformity assessment route guidance

Technical File and Documentation Support

The technical file is one of the most important parts of CE compliance. Depending on the product, it may include product descriptions, drawings, electrical schematics, risk assessments, test reports, user manuals, standards lists, labels, nameplates and Declaration of Conformity drafts. If some documents are missing, we can help identify what needs to be prepared. For document checks, you can also use our Documentation Verify service.

CE Marking for Machinery

Machinery often requires detailed review because hazards may involve moving parts, guarding, emergency stops, control systems, electrical safety, noise, stability and user interaction. We support machinery safety review, ISO 12100 risk assessment, guarding review, safety function review, instructions review, technical file preparation and CE Declaration of Conformity guidance. For broader project support, see Machinery Compliance and, where relevant, Noise Testing.

CE Marking for Electrical Equipment

Electrical equipment may need to meet requirements related to electrical safety, insulation, protection against electric shock, overheating, marking, instructions and EMC. We can help you review applicable requirements and technical evidence, including support linked to LVD Testing and EMC Testing.

CE and UKCA Compliance

If a product is supplied in both the EU and Great Britain, both CE and UKCA requirements may need to be considered. CE marking applies to the EU market. UKCA marking applies to many products placed on the Great Britain market. Read more about UKCA Marking.

Important Note

CE marking remains the responsibility of the manufacturer or the party placing the product on the market. Mervex supports the process through technical review, documentation support, risk assessment and conformity assessment guidance. Where third-party assessment is required by legislation, this should be completed through an appropriate Notified Body or recognised conformity assessment route.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do all products need CE marking?

No. CE marking only applies to products covered by EU legislation requiring CE marking.

Is CE marking the same as a certificate?

No. CE marking is not automatically a third-party certificate. It is supported by conformity assessment, technical documentation and a Declaration of Conformity.

Do I need testing for CE marking?

It depends on the product and applicable legislation. Some products require testing, while others may need inspection, design review, risk assessment or documentation evidence.
